Local Backhaul Networks
Chesterfield MO

Q: What does your company do and how long has it been in operation?
A: Local Backhaul Networks has been providing professional engineering services and hosted SLA and deployment applications to carriers since 2009.  Our clients include Tier 1 wireless carriers, technology manufacturers, IOCs and MSOs. Local Backhaul’s OcularIP application is the leader in the burgeoning SLA circuit performance assurance portal market.

Q: To what do you attribute your company’s success in the communications industry?
A: Local Backhaul has experienced terrific growth because we provide quality, cost-effective services by leveraging decades of experience in network deployments and operations.  We have utilized this experience to attract talented employees and create unique value with our hosted SLA and network deployment applications.  These applications, and our quality control, ensure the delivery of high quality, cost-effective services to our clients. This covers all aspects of our relationships with our clients – whether it’s the implementation of a LTE backhaul network, installation of a node or the turn up of the OcularIP SLA assurance portal.

Q: What have been the biggest obstacles your company has faced in the marketplace?
A: To this point it has been effectively managing growth. Based upon the experience of our management team, we realize that controlled growth is the most effective for customers, employees and the company.

Q: What do you see as your greatest challenges going forward?
A: We don’t want Local Backhaul Networks and our solutions to be the best kept secret in the communications industry.  We have a very strong business foundation built on great customers, OEM and distribution partners. Our growth to date has been based upon word of mouth and referrals. Therefore as a company, we are working on moving this to the next level and expanding our promotional activities.

Q: What have been some of your company’s most recent achievements (new customer wins, new service/product deployment, etc.)?
A: In 2012 Local Backhaul Networks achieved several milestones.
As an independent SLA performance portal system, OcularIP added dozens of new service providers, MSOs and cloud/data center providers to our client base. Based in part on this success we signed agreements with several additional technology manufacturers, representing over 70 percent of the carrier Ethernet market.  OcularIP Rev3 was released and incorporated a host of new functions no other portal offers: an iPad application and  APIs to integrate with additional systems or SDN implementations. With these innovative new features,  OcularIP has extended its position as the industry’s leading SLA portal solution. With the wins last year,  two of the nation’s top  six carrier Ethernet providers now use OcularIP.
On the professional services front, we exceeded 12,000 work orders for network deployments, released a new version of our Workflow Operations Optimization Database (W.O.O.D.) customer portal, added an additional Tier1 wireless provider along with several regional network providers as clients.  The markets where we assisted in build outs were recognized as the fastest growing LTE markets in the US.

Q: Why is it important for your company to be a COMPTEL member?
A: The COMPTEL community represents the most important relationships to our business: service providers and technology manufacturers.  We have been attending the COMPTEL PLUS trade show for several years and it has been a very positive experience. COMPTEL helps keep us abreast of the dynamics of the telecommunications industry and provides a forum to interact with clients and partners alike. Our CTO Raymond Chiu presented at COMPTEL PLUS a couple years ago and it has resulted in new features, service and business for us.
