Q: What does your company do and how long has it been in operation?
A:
FPL FiberNet, a subsidiary of FPL Group, delivers award-winning fiber-optic transport services to wholesale and enterprise customers throughout Florida. Our products include traditional SONET and SDH transport, Ethernet/IP and wireless solutions.  With more than 2,660 miles of high quality and high count fiber and expanding connectivity to central offices, customer POPs, carrier hotels/data centers and international cable landing stations, FPL FiberNet is the transport provider of choice in Florida.  FPL FiberNet was launched in early 2000

Q: To what do you attribute your company’s success in the communications industry?
A: Key contributors are reliability, scalability and stability.  Our geographically diverse fiber-optic network which connects all the major metros in Florida consists of a unique blend of SONET, DWDM, and Ethernet technology that provides our customers with the reliability they require. We are the competitive access provider with the greatest coverage in state and, as a Florida leader in business-critical network solutions; we have a flexible approach that fits customer’s needs and virtually unlimited potential for growth. We offer competitive pricing and fast delivery through our local sales and service teams.

Q: What have been the biggest obstacles your company has faced in the marketplace?
A: In the current economic environment, FPL FiberNet is seeing a softer market.  Layoffs and restructuring in the industry are delaying decision making and slowing the purchase of services. In addition, the telecom market is highly competitive and many times price is critical to decision making. FPL FiberNet is experiencing pricing pressures due to increased competition in its Florida markets which poses a challenge on driving strong revenue growth year over year.

Q: What do you see as your greatest challenges going forward?
A: As the market moves from optical services to more packet-based services, FPL FiberNet is identifying and strategically investing in equipment that allows us to have a seamless transition to all-IP.  Our customers operate in fiercely competitive markets and face the same challenging economic times the country is experiencing, the ability to enhance our services while keeping operating costs low is critical.

Q: What have been some of your company’s most recent achievements (new customer wins, new service/product deployment, etc.)?
A:
Recent recognition includes ATLANTIC-ACM Metro Carrier Excellence Award recipient for “Best-in-Class” products and services for two consecutive years and 2008 Best US Metropolitan Offering awarded by Capacity Magazine.

FPL FiberNet’s signing of backhaul agreements with wireless service providers to provide cell site backhaul services in major metros in Florida including Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach are also noteworthy.

Q: Why is it important for your company to be a COMPTEL member?
A: Being a member of COMPTEL enables FPL FiberNet to stay abreast of industry issues and developments as well as to develop business relationships
