Q: What does your company do and how long has it been in operation?
A: Core Communications, Inc., also known as CoreTel, is a 13-year old, Annapolis, Md.-based CLEC. Borne out of the Telecommuncations Act of 1996, CoreTel offers a variety of IP-centric services geared for VoIP carriers, including IP telephony, call origination, and instant and vanity number provisioning. CoreTel’s geographic footprint covers the states of Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and New York. Additional East Coast states and call termination will be launched later in 2010. CoreTel’s network interconnections cover 14 LATAs with over 100,000 DS0s of capacity. Our ever-expanding network encompasses over 1,100 rate centers, including RBOC, larger ILEC and smaller RLEC rate centers. CoreTel is the first and only CLEC licensed to operate in over 30 RLEC territories in the state of Pennsylvania. CoreTel’s business model is that of an IP network wholesaler; we do not sell VoIP to end users directly, only to VoIP providers and ISPs.

Q: To what do you attribute your company’s success in the communications industry?
A:
Due to our interconnection knowledge and expertise, CoreTel allows our clients to develop and manage telephony features and in turn provide a wider choice of dynamic phone services for the consumer. We provide flexible business arrangements, creative solutions and proactive client support.

Q: What have been the biggest obstacles your company has faced in the marketplace?
A: The biggest obstacle facing our company has been regulatory issues. We are very active in state and federal regulatory issues.

Q: What do you see as your greatest challenges going forward?
A: The three main challenges facing CoreTel and the industry as a whole are constraints on supply, the inadequacy of educating the customer and the ability to scale relationships.

Q: What have been some of your company’s most recent achievements (new customer wins, new service/product deployment, etc.)?
A:
CoreTel offers SIP services including SIP origination, instant number provisioning and vanity number provisioning. With LATAs and rate centers throughout the Mid-Atlantic, CoreTel can provide wholesale SIP solutions for service providers at very aggressive and reduced rates.

Q: Why is it important for your company to be a COMPTEL member?
A: COMPTEL provides us with access to industry experts and contacts. Becoming a member will help CoreTel grow as an IP-centric CLEC. COMPTEL will enhance CoreTel’s exposure within the industry and in turn will increase the use of our wholesale VoIP services.
